329: #AskHappyHour: Connecting With Your Avatar in Person

Making A Personal Connection With Your Avatar

Leveraging social media and the internet is a great way to reach your exact perfect prospect, or as we refer to it, your avatar. Dawn and Traci of the Social Media Marketing Happy Hour, talk about how important it is to actually connect with your avatar in person. There are different levels of connection that you can do with your avatar. We don't just mean a face-to-face connection like at meetings, functions, or events, we also mean on the phone, on Skype, Google Hangouts and the like.

Connecting Offline

The question is: How do you find your avatar in person?

It's actually the same thing online. You just need to be where your target market is going to be. Say for example your avatar is college students, you might be marketing more on Facebook and Instagram, that's where you'll find them. Offline, you'll have to do your research and find where your avatar is hanging out and plan on going there and attending those events or meetings.

A lot of people don't like face-to-face networking because it feels so forced. But being out there allows you to meet people who are in the same circle or who might be looking for someone like you. It's a great place to establish connections because many doors will open for you when you're out and about. Plus, it's always good to be around like-minded people too.

One of the things you don't often realize when you do this is how much you actually get out of the interaction. What's important is you don't go in there with an agenda. If you have that kind of mindset, you won't make it past your front door. Instead, just go ahead and interact, be yourself, represent your brand well, and wait for those connections to blossom.

Connecting Online

Even if you are not physically in front of your avatar, there are still ways to connect with them in person. If your avatars live in other parts of the world, you should include video calls in your communication strategy. You have to move the conversation from social media or from messaging to a call. Utilize Skype or Google Hangouts for calls (preferably video calls because these are way more effective) especially if you're an internet marketer and you're building your business online.

If you're marketing right now and you don't want to come off your computer, that's fine. You can still do business online by coming up with strategies that allow you the opportunity to connect with people. For example, you can have an email series that asks the person to email you back. You can also have a live hangout, a webinar, anything that has relevance to your brand and allows you to connect with your avatar.

Do your best in all of your marketing to connect and always ask for the connection.
