338: Where Do You Send Traffic?

Know How to Get and Send Traffic with Valuable Content

TRAFFIC! All business owners and marketers agree that a good flow of traffic is essential to keep businesses, be it large scale or small scale, up and running. But once you have that desired traffic, do you know what to do with it? Things are always changing when it comes to traffic… where to send people and what you're calls to action are going to be. At the start of the year, it would have been a different story if you had asked that question.

In this episode of the Social Media Marketing Happy Hour, Dawn and Traci share the different types of content you would want to send traffic to and what’s working now. If you've spent money on paid traffic and have gotten no results, then you'll want to take notes on this show.

Building Relationships

Ten years ago, all marketers wanted was to click on their banner, get people to their website, and then get those people to buy something. There was no real relationship building. It was all about getting a person on your list and selling whatever product or service you had. But over time, it has been getting better. There has been so much improvement and new knowledge when it comes to email marketing, list building, and nurturing leads. Because of this shift, it has enabled marketers to focus more on the relationship with the consumers.

Marketers have to focus their attention and care more about the end user's experience. You have to be mature enough and realize that it's not just about the sale. More than anything, it's about helping a person solve a specific problem through the product or service that you are offering. Initially, business owners focus on getting a sale and making more money without thinking of the consumers and their experience. But when you get past that and reach the level where you care more about the people you are selling to, that’s the real fulfillment right there.

Of course, we aim to sell our stuff, we should also aim to get people to trust you. We should see to it that we are making a difference in the lives of those who have decided to put their trust in us and who take advantage of our offers. This is where we get our satisfaction from – knowing that we've helped people grow their business which in turn also helps us grow our own businesses.

Hot, Warm, and Cold Traffic

When you are looking at traffic for your business (getting leads and sales), you have to think of the cold, warm and hot traffic. There has to be a distinction of traffic because your call to action will be different for each type of traffic. For example, you shouldn’t send cold traffic directly to your lead capture page because they don't know you well enough to even give you their email address.  Another example, if you are listening to us for the first time here on Happy Hour, it's a different relationship compared to those that have followed us since Day 1.

Valuable Content

Having excellent content that your target customers are going to love, that's the best place to send traffic to. If you want to see the people taking action, getting on your lists, becoming leads, and buying from you, you have to start putting out valuable content, especially for paid traffic. It should be something that educates, gives value, and allows them to walk away with tangible and good information… something that the audience can benefit from after seeing or hearing your content. You don't have to have mountains upon mountains of content. You just have to have really good and valuable pieces and send traffic to that.

Also, your content doesn't have to be in writing. You can create visual content like an image or a video or a audio content like a podcast. It's up to you depending on what your strong suit is. As long as you are able to give them some kind of result from it to prove that you really do know what you're talking about. When you take cold traffic to content like this, you have successfully started to build more of a relationship with those people. So when they see an ad for something you are selling, the chances of them opting in and getting it is greater!

Traffic Strategy

Here’s a good strategy for sending traffic. Many entrepreneurs use Facebook to send traffic to valuable content and are very successful at it. Why? Because if you are sending targeted traffic to valuable content, your relevant score goes up. The higher your relevant score is, the more Facebook will love them. From there, you can send advertising to those people who have visited the content and are part of your invisible list. With paid traffic on Facebook, it may not be the cheapest lead, but it’s the best lead you are going to get.

Keep this in mind: Leverage on social media to build relationships with people and let them get to know you better before throwing your offer at them.

On Happy Hour, we’ve implemented multiple traffic sites. Facebook of course, and another favorite of ours is Twitter. It’s actually one of the best platforms to utilize if you want free traffic.
