325: #AskHappyHour: Capitializing on Increased Twitter Traffic

How Can I Take Advantage of Increased Twitter Traffic?

Many people haven’t had the chance to use Twitter to their advantage. Although some may have it, they don’t exactly know how to make it work for them. In this episode of the Social Media Marketing Happy Hour, Dawn & Traci answer a listener’s question who is starting to get more traffic from Twitter but isn't quite sure how to respond to it all.

Why use Twitter?

Before we address the question, we want to share with you why Twitter is wicked awesome and very valuable to us. Twitter is actually our favorite source of free traffic and leads. It’s the platform where we spend the least amount of time in, but it works wonders! A lot of you might think that we’re on Twitter 24/7 because we have a very strong and consistent only presence there… we are, in fact, only there a few minutes a day. Majority of the time we spend on Twitter is actually for engagements. Once Twitter is set up and automated properly, it will keep on giving you a steady stream of traffic and will generate leads for your business.

If you don’t really understand Twitter or you haven’t had the chance to include it in your social media marketing strategies, we encourage you to do so. To get you started, you can grab our Twitter Hacks at www.HappyHourHangouts.com/twitterhacks. This is a free resource that teaches you 26 very helpful hacks for Twitter.

The Question: How do I capitalize on increased Twitter traffic? How often should you reply to favorites, mentions, and/or retweets?

It will all depend on how much traffic you get on Twitter. There’s only so much you can do in a day. You have to gauge the frequency of your responses by taking into consideration the growth of your followers and your Twitter account in general.

Take every opportunity you can to engage with your audience. Make sure you respond to people that Tweet directly and those that retweet your stuff. Those are the people you should engage with. Especially people who mention you on their Tweet, you should definitely respond to them. You just have to remember not to over engage at the cost of your productivity.

If you’re just getting started and you don’t have that much traffic yet, by all means, go ahead and engage even with those that have favorited your stuff. Traci manages Happy Hour’s Twitter account and she doesn’t reply to everyone who has favorited our Tweets, because we don’t have the bandwidth to do that. If she did, it would consume all of her time to respond to that many favorites. There are many other companies and businesses who have hundreds, if not thousands more favorites, mentions and retweets, compared to Happy Hour.
